The Bethlehem Icon School Professional Training Course

The BIS is offering a limited number of places for Palestinian Christians who wish to learn sacred iconography to a professional level. The course is free, though students must provide or purchase all their own materials.

The course is on-going and part time, offers weekend tutorials, giving practical and theoretical tuition, together with a dedicated studio and the opportunity to work alongside the Director on various projects. Student's progress largely depends on their willingness to put in hours of practice in their own time.

It covers much the same material as in the Diploma course, but at a much slower pace.

The students on this course are expected to form the kernel of a living community of iconographers in the Holy Land. The Centre and its workshops are open throughout the week and students are encouraged to make as much use of them as possible. They are also expected to contribute of their time and talents to the ongoing life and development of the Centre with the same generosity of spirit with which the places have been made available to them.

When students have reached a high level of proficiency they will have the opportunity to take commissioned work through the BIC, to exhibit with the School and to sell their work through the BIS Gallery. A certificate of proficiency is issued upon transition to the workshop.

To apply for this course you will need to complete an extended application form. Places are granted initially for a probationary period of three months, after which successful students are offered 100% scholarships.

If you plan to visit and want to give a little something to support us... why not bring or send a book on iconography for our library?

Books are expensive, especially to pay for import from abroad, but an essential resource, so if you wanted to bring or send one as a gift you would be making a very real and lasting contribution.
